Privacy Policy for RareTap

Short enough to read, specific enough to hold us to it.

This Privacy Policy describes how the RareTap app and website handle information. RareTap is published by Traveled Out, a sole proprietorship.

We've kept this short and plain-English because the answer is short: The RareTap app does not collect, transmit, or share any of your data.

1. Data we collect

The RareTap app collects nothing. The app does not send your data to us, our servers, or any third party.

2. Data stored on your device

RareTap stores the following on your iPhone and iPad, and (if you enable iCloud sync) in your private iCloud account:

  • Activity records. Clock-in and clock-out times, breaks, manual edits, and how each event was started or stopped (manually, by geofence, through Siri or Shortcuts, from a notification or Live Activity, or in Control Center).
  • Journal entries. Any notes or journal text you write, tied to your days and activities.
  • Journaling suggestions you pick. If you start an entry from Apple's journaling suggestions (iOS 17.2 and later), the details you pick in the system picker — such as a place name, a song, or a workout title — are written into that entry, and the suggestion's title is kept on the entry as a visible "From Journaling Suggestions" note. RareTap receives only what you explicitly pick, uses it solely for that journal entry, and never shares it. If you never use the picker, RareTap receives nothing from it.
  • Activities. The activities you track, including their names, colors, icons, and any weekly time goals you set.
  • Tracked locations. If you set up one or more locations for geofence-based auto-clocking: each location's name, coordinates, geofence radius, and the activity it belongs to.
  • App preferences. UI selections such as your last-used calendar view and similar non-personal app state.

This data lives on your device(s). Traveled Out never receives a copy.

3. iCloud sync

If you are signed in to iCloud and have iCloud Drive enabled, RareTap uses Apple's CloudKit to sync the data in section 2 between your own devices. This sync uses your private iCloud database, which is visible only to you. Apple's own iCloud Privacy Policy governs this storage.

Traveled Out has no ability to read, access, or recover your iCloud data.

4. Location

RareTap uses your device's location only for the optional geofence feature that auto-detects when you arrive at or leave any location you have configured (a workplace, gym, school, or any place tied to one of your activities). When this feature is enabled:

  • Location is processed entirely on your device by Apple's CoreLocation framework.
  • Location is never transmitted off your device — not to us, not to any third party.
  • The "Always" location permission is requested only when you save your first tracked location; this is required for region monitoring to work while the app is in the background. You can revoke it at any time in Settings → RareTap → Location.

If you don't set up any tracked locations, RareTap does not request location at all.

5. Third-party services

The RareTap app does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, attribution, crash reporting, or tracking SDKs. The app contains no third-party network code.

The only third-party software embedded in the app is Lottie, a rendering library for animations — Lottie does not make any network connections.

6. Analytics, tracking, advertising

None. The RareTap app does not include analytics, behavioral tracking, advertising identifiers (IDFA), fingerprinting, or any cross-app tracking.

7. Website analytics

This website uses Vercel Web Analytics to understand aggregate page views and referring sites. It does not use cookies or associate visits with a named person, and its visitor identifier resets after 24 hours.

Vercel may process the page URL, filtered query parameters, referrer, approximate country or region, device type, operating system, and browser for aggregated reporting. We do not use custom analytics events or send activity records, journal entries, location records, or other in-app data to Vercel.

8. Purchases

If you purchase RareTap Premium, the transaction is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Payments are processed by Apple — RareTap never sees or stores your payment details — and your purchase is recognized on your device through Apple's transaction records. We receive no personal or payment information from a purchase.

9. Children's privacy

RareTap is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone (see section 1).

10. Your rights — deleting your data

Because your data lives on your device and in your private iCloud account, you control it directly:

  • In the app: delete individual entries, journal notes, or entire activities at any time — RareTap keeps no server-side copy to retain.
  • On-device data: delete the app from your iPhone or iPad. iOS removes RareTap's local data automatically.
  • iCloud data: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Storage (or Manage Account Storage) → RareTap → Delete Data.

There is no developer account or server to contact for deletion because we never received your data in the first place.

11. Changes to this policy

If we update this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top and post the new version at the same URL. If a change is material, we'll also mention it in an in-app release note.
